An 18-unit apartment building on top of 18 ground-floor parking spaces will soon grace a currently-blighted space in Newark’s South Ward as the result of a site plan application that Connell Foley Real Estate Group partners Jennifer Carrillo-Perez and Elnardo Webster ushered through zoning board approval.
The project will be built on a 0.172-acre plot at 776-780 South 19th St., which is currently home to a soon-to-be-torn-down, two-and-one-half-story home with a detached garage that neighbors describe as an “eyesore.” The zoning board on August 10 approved the project by a 6-to-1 vote despite the fact that the redevelopment zone’s allowable building height was only two stories, and a gym on top of the new apartment building’s roof will technically make it five stories.
The project is being undertaken by developer SRU South 19th LLC.
