Jennifer Carrillo-Perez overcame a height limitation to secure government approval for a 150-foot-high building in Newark’s University Heights that will be home to 234 units, 20% of which will be set aside as affordable housing.
The building, tentatively called the “Ocular,” will be located at the corner of Central Avenue and Norfolk Street. The Board also granted preliminary and final site plan approval, a use variance, and bulk variance relief, allowing for the Ocular to comprise 2,000 square feet of retail/commercial space, 97 off-street parking spaces, and 234 apartments in total.
Board Chairman Charles Auffant took the time to “thank counsel for a really good application,” which Jennifer filed on behalf of her client, the project’s developer, Norfolk Member LLC.
