The Board of Commissioners of Burlington County, N.J., has enlisted Connell Foley LLP to investigate the unusually long wait times that many voters experienced at polling locations in Burlington County, N.J., during the November 2024 General Election.
As “independent special counsel,” Connell Foley is tasked with making recommendations to prevent future problems at polling places in Burlington County, which used a new fleet of voting machines at all of its polling locations on Election Day. The machines, which replaced the county's switch-based devices, were plagued by technical problems that delayed the ability to cast votes. The firm will examine all aspects of the 2024 election, including the new voting machines, polling locations, the makeup of voting districts, and poll worker training and management.
“We have decided that it is in the best interest of all parties that the review be performed by an independent third-party,” said Burington County Commissioner Director Felicia Hopson. “We expect the Burlington County Superintendent of Elections and Burlington County Election Board will cooperate fully and we are confident that Connell Foley will deliver a thorough report that will allow us to make informed decisions to address the November election problems.”
Connell Foley is well acquainted with Garden State government, counting the following among the firm’s past and current attorneys: former New Jersey Governor and Chief Justice Richard Hughes; former U.S. District Court Chief Judge John W. Bissell, former Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno and former Essex County Superior Court Judge Eugene J. Codey Jr.
