Print

Nicole B. Dory, a partner in Connell Foley’s Environmental Law and Real Estate & Land Use Groups, authored the article “Coping with New Jersey’s Spill Tax,” which was published in the August 2016 issue of New Jersey Business Magazine.  Established in 1976, the New Jersey Spill Tax funds the state’s Spill Compensation Fund to clean up spills and environmental mishaps. The tax covers petroleum products and designated hazardous substances. However, the tax also covers mixtures of products that contain such small amounts of hazardous substances that the products are not commonly considered hazardous themselves. Ms. Dory’s article provides an overview of the New Jersey Spill Tax and alerts business owners as to who and what is taxed.
