Summer Associate Program

The Connell Foley Summer Associate Program is open to second-year law students who have demonstrated superior academic ability in both their undergraduate and law school careers. To recruit the best candidates for our program, we accept written applications coupled with on-campus interviews at many law schools.

Our program is designed to give summer associates both practical legal experience as well as familiarity with firm life at Connell Foley, while also enabling us to assess each associate’s potential for permanent employment at our firm. Summer associates will typically handle many varied and challenging work assignments in a broad array of practice areas. These assignments are complemented by in-house training events and seminars, as well as attendance at arguments, hearings, and depositions.

A variety of social activities are coordinated to allow summer associates to interact with our attorneys on a more informal level and gain an appreciation of our culture. Each summer associate is assigned to a partner and associate mentor to provide guidance and insight into the practice of law and to Connell Foley’s work environment.

Connell Foley offers sophisticated and challenging work across a range of legal disciplines. Our approach provides attorneys with a unique practice experience and a high degree of recognition for individual talent, all within a respected and collegial atmosphere.

Supported by a wide breadth of talented professionals and resources, attorneys joining our firm have the opportunity to take on a high degree of responsibility and often learn firsthand by taking depositions, arguing motions, handling transactions, and interacting with clients, witnesses and opposing counsel. Supervising attorneys and practice group leaders provide regular counsel and direct feedback to ensure consistent and positive development.

We provide opportunities to further each attorney’s legal education and development through accredited in-house seminars and externally sponsored programs that cover a variety of practice areas and professional topics. Our attorneys also have the ability to participate in trial colleges, including those offered through the IADC and ABOTA, as well as Inns of Court programs, including areas of bankruptcy, intellectual property, civil litigation, federal practice, and labor/employment law.

Our attorney compensation system parallels each attorney’s development and proficiency, and is competitive with other major New Jersey law firms.

To enable professional growth and development, we provide our paralegals with training, guidance, and support, and we encourage continued professional education to enhance contributions to the firm and our clients.
